Places of Interest in and around Vaishno Devi:

Vaishno Devi Temple is located in the Reasi district in the state of Jammu and Kashmir(J&K).  It is near the town of Katra. Katra is appox 50 Kms from Jammu.Pilgrims intend to visit Vaisho devi has to come to Jammu by Rail or Air.  Katra can be reached on Road from Jammu.  Vaishno devi  is one of the most revered places of worship in India. Approx. 10 million yatris (Pilgrims) visit the shrine every year.  The shrine is at an altitude of 5300 feet and a distance of approximately 12 kilometres from Katra. . The entire stretch from Katra to Vaishno Devi Bhawan is to covered on foot. Pilgrims who find it tough to walk can hire ponies, palanquins(Palkis). Helicopter service is also availabe from Katra to Sanjichat (3 km from Vaishno Devi Bhawan) .

The Holy Bhawan houses the Sanctum Sanctorum – the Holy cave which is the ultimate destination of the yatries. Inside the Holy Cave the Goddess has revealed herself in the form of Holy Pindies manifesting Mata in her three forms Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi and Mata SaraswatiThe first sight of the Holy Bhawan brings a sudden upsurge of energy and all the tiredness of the strenuous climb evaporates immediately as if by a magic wave of some mystic wand. .A pilgrim can get the first glimpse of Bhawan around 1.5 Kms before he actually reaches there. The fact that the last 1.5 km of the Yatra are either level or gently sloping downwards is a big relief to those tired muscles. The feeling of having almost reached there fills the devotees with extra fervor and devotion. The last 1.5 kms. are then covered on wings, as it were, and in no time, the yatri reaches Bhawan.

Shiv Khori:

Famous cave shrine of "Shivkhori" situated in District Reasi of J&K state . It is at a distance of approx. 70 Kms from Katra and 115 Kms from Jammu. Cave  depicts the natural formation of shivlingum. It is one of the most venerated cave shrines of Lord Shiva in the region. The Holy cave is more than 150 mts long & houses 4 feet high Svayambhu Lingum, which constantly baths in a milky lime fluid dripping from the ceiling. The cave is full of natural impression & images of various Hindu Deities & full of divine feelings. That is why Shivkhori is known as "Home of Gods". The route from Jammu to Shiv Khori is full of beautiful & picturesque mountains, waterfalls & lakes.
