Places of Interest in Pahalgam:

 Aru Valley, Chandanwari, Bisaran, Betab Valley


Pahalgam is world famous hill stationand is located at a distance of 95 Kms from capital city of Srinagar. Pahalgam is located on the banks of river Lidder at an altitude of 2730m. Pahalgam is visited by tourists and locals in huge number for its cool temperatures in summer and river Lidder flowing through town. Traveling through meandering roads, Pahalgam opens up with a fresh cool breeze of the river. The source of  Lidder river is Kolohoi glaciers and  Tarsar lake and Sheeshnag to join as tributary of Jhelum. Pahalgam has an astounding golf course open for tourists. The golf championships are organised by state government and private hoteliers in summer. Pahalgam is base camp for  annual Amarnath Yatra. Chandanwari which is located at 2,895 m and is 16 km from Pahalgam is base camp of Yatra. Amarnath Yatra takes place every year in the month of June, July and August.

Aru is a resort village 11km from Pahalgam. It is well connected with a motorable road. From here, famous trek via Lidderwat leads to the Kolohoi Glaciers (36km) at an altitude of 3400mtrs.Aru is a base camp for trekking to the Kolhoi Glacier (5370m) and Tarsar Lake (3749 m), Marsar Lake (3788m). Aru is know for its scenic meadows. Tourist activities in Aru includes fishing of trout in the Lidder river, trekking, hiking, horse riding, sightseeing and photography.


It is 3 km from pahalgam. Baisran  is an exciting place where a stream flows through the meadows and pine trees.Visitors can enjoy a horse ride available at the market place near the bus stand. You can have pony ride from Pahalgam to Baisaran.

Betab Valley :

Betaab valley is  at a distance of 15 kilometers from Pahalgam . Betab valley got its name from the Sunny Deol  and Amrita Singh hit debut film Betaab. The Valley falls between Pahalgam and Chandanwadi and is en route Amarnath Temple Yatra. The valley surrounded by lush green meadows, snow clad mountains and covered with dense vegetation. It is a very popular touristic destination. Betaab Valley is also a favorite campsite of travelers as it also serves as a base camp for trekking and further exploration of the mountains.[


Chandanwari is situated at a distance of 16 km from Pahalga. It is the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra, which takes place every year in the month of Sawan. The trip to Chandanwari  takes about four-five hours on a semi-road that has the Lidder river meandering on the one side, and lofty, snow-capped mountains on the other. Taxis are available from Pahalgam for Chandanwari. During Amarnath Yatra road to Chadanwari is busiest. Chandanwari  is also  famous for snow sledging on a snow bridge. Some people prefer to do a day hike to Chandanwari. At Chandanwari, the Sheshnag river is captivating with its sheer force and clear waters. You can get an opportunity to do sledge riding and get up to some heights, upto the fifth point which is also a route that yatris take to reach the Amarnath Cave. "Snow fights" is what people generally indulge in here before they sledge back down. Many prefer to sip a cup of tea of snack at the near by dhabas.
